Common Conveyor Problems & Solutions
Problem: Belt becomes curved or uneven.
Solution: Allow the belt to properly run-in or break-in over time.
Problem: Belt joint is weak or incorrectly fixed.
Solution: Inspect the splice, remove if faulty, and reattach using correct fasteners. Tighten after short operation.
Problem: Belt becomes uneven or longer on one side.
Solution: Cut out damaged section and re-splice. Replace if necessary.
Problem: Belt not properly supported at transition points.
Solution: Adjust transition distance or correct conveyor curve design.
Problem: Belt deteriorates due to environmental exposure.
Solution: Use belts specifically designed for those conditions.
Problem: Belt weakens due to exposure.
Solution: Install protective covers over the conveyor.
Problem: Load is not evenly spread across belt.
Solution: Adjust loading system and monitor operation closely.
Problem: Large spacing between rollers causes belt sagging.
Solution: Reduce spacing to recommended levels.
Problem: Heavy material damages belt surface.
Solution: Use impact idlers, proper chutes, and load fines first.
Problem: Belt is over-tightened.
Solution: Recalculate and adjust tension properly.
Problem: Rollers or pulleys are not aligned.
Solution: Align them properly with conveyor centerline.
Problem: Rollers are stuck or not moving.
Solution: Replace faulty idlers.
Problem: Belt lacks proper support.
Solution: Add more idlers at correct spacing.
Problem: Material fed incorrectly onto belt.
Solution: Feed material in belt direction and control flow using feeders/chutes.
Problem: Belt slips on pulley.
Solution: Increase wrap angle, use lagging, and check tension.
Problem: Dirt accumulates and affects movement.
Solution: Clean regularly and install scrapers/cleaners.
Problem: Belt either slips or is overstressed.
Solution: Adjust take-up system properly.
Problem: Belt slips during operation.
Solution: Increase tension or use lagged pulleys.
Problem: Skirts rub against belt.
Solution: Adjust skirts so they don’t touch the belt.
